Apple and Chestnut Compote

Ingredients
  • 1/2 lb. fresh Forest Grove chestnuts
  • 3 Granny Smith apples
  • 1 lemon
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 Tablespoons honey
  • 2 Tablespoons white wine (optional)
  • whipped cream
Instructions
  1. Roast and peel the chestnuts (refer to chestnut cooking & storing tips).
  2. Peel, core and slice the apples into slender wedges. Zest and juice the lemon.
  3. Combine all ingredients except the wine in a sauce pan and simmer with a lid over a low heat for 10 minutes.
  4. Add the wine and chill.
  5. Serve with wipped cream.
